Horsehide is arguably the most traditional stropping surface, and for good reason. This beautiful heirloom quality strop features a full 3" of stropping surface so you don't have to worry about making "X strokes", and is made from a combination tanned horse meaning it is both vegetable tanned and chrome. These Chromexcel strips are tanned alongside Shell Cordovan for the first 45 days and then hot stuffed with waxes and finished as Chromexcel which gives it a fantastic texture and that intoxicating smell. The actual strip of leather that comes off the hide is cut just above the "shells" of the animal, and this strip is often referred to as "North of Cordovan" and it shares many of the same characteristics that Shell Cordovan is prized for. The strop leather is BLACK in color.

The second surface is a really nice natural flax linen webbing from England that helps you clean and prepare your straight razor for stropping. Each of these pieces measure 16" long and come fastened to handmade leather handles in Brown bridle leather. The handles are assembled using the traditional saddle stitch and the edges are beveled and slicked smooth to feel great in the hand. Each piece hangs at the exact same length so that both handles can be held as one when stropping which provides additional support for each surface.

Why horsehide? Horsehide has been prized by knowledgeable wet shavers for well over a hundred years due to its dense grain structure, medium draw, and durability. It will keep your prized straight razor in tip top shape and help you avoid uncomfortable tugging associated with inferior strops.

Both the leather and the linen material are fitted with hardware in the solid brass and can be fully disassembled. If you happen to damage your strop you will then have the option to remove the screws and replace the leather material or change out the linen.

Please note that these strops are sorted for quality, and it is normal to expect slight discoloration on parts of the stropping surface due to this being a natural material. No imperfections that impact stropping will ever be included.

If you are looking for an heirloom quality razor strop at a great price, then look no further.
